How do I add side view cameras to a stereo with only one input?
A very common question we get is how to add multiple cameras to a stereo or screen with only one triggered video input? There is a way that this can be done but will require several components and some wiring changes to make this work. This setup will utilize the one video input to connect multiple cameras and provide a triggered output to force the monitor or stereo to switch to display the side when a turn signal is used or reverse camera or when the vehicle is placed in reverse.
Component list:
Wiring changes:
- Remove reverse camera connection to the radio and connect to the reverse output on the switcher
- Connect reverse camera to the rear camera input on the switcher
- Connect side cameras to the side camera inputs on the switcher
- Connect turn signals to the side camera triggers on the switcher
- Connect reverse lights to the rear camera triggers on the switcher
- Connect power to the switcher
The switcher will process all the signals and provide the output to the monitor or car stereo. This will force the stereo to go to the reverse input anytime a turn signal or reverse camera is present
