Digital volt meters
A digital volt meter (also called a digital multimeter) lets installers check for the presence of voltage, confirm polarity, and troubleshoot wiring before making a connection — helping locate a good ground, a constant power source, and a switched accessory source when wiring a head unit, amplifier, or other 12-volt component. The selection includes manual-range meters, which require the user to select the correct measurement range, and auto-ranging meters, which automatically adjust to the signal being tested for faster, simpler readings. Features across these models typically include backlit LCD displays for use in dim locations, color-coded input jacks, and long test leads for reaching tight spaces behind a dash. Using a volt meter before and during installation helps confirm wiring is correct and reduces the risk of a damaged component or a faulty connection.
