Our testing and analysis of the Dual DCPA701
Dual’s new DCPA701 7” digital media receiver which is one of the cheapest Apple Carplay and Android Auto head units on the market today. This double din features a 7” display, capacitive touchscreen, bluetooth, Apple carplay and android auto. Coming in at the $200 range, this thing is a steal.
What's inside the box
Inside the box is an external bluetooth microphone, RCA AV Input harness which includes 2 volts RCA pre-amp outputs for front rear and subwoofers, Backup camera input, and RCA AV inputs, wiring harness with SWC input, hardware, trim panel, owner’s manual, double din 7” headunit.
Rear Connections
The rear connections include wiring harness, AV harness, external microphone for hands free calling, radio antenna and USB pigtail.
The unique chassis of the stereo was designed in a way to ensure open space for expandability and connections. It sort of looks like a hollowed out double din stereo, which is kind of what most double dins are. Majority are filled with empty space.
Display
The display itself is 7”, and features a capacitive touchscreen similar to your smartphone, however it is not 1080p HD. Kind of a bummer. It has a resolution of 1024 x 600. Which is better than the usual 800x480 and gets us close to 720p. The command panel on the front of the stereo below the display features voice assist, micro sd card slot, mode, band, USB input and home. This unit does not have a disc slot.
The overall design of the operating system is solid. I think Dual was heavily influenced by Sony again with the OS on their XAV-AX models. Big fonts, big graphics, simplicity. I like it. The radio tuner features 30 presets, 18 FM, 12 AM.
Apple Carplay and Android Auto
Apple Carplay and Android Auto are essential for a new stereo. They both require a USB connection on this stereo, so they cannot operate wirelessly. The connection will also charge your device. Get access to your music, audio, messaging and navigation apps which all look great on the massive display. Video apps do not transfer. Again, these will not work wirelessly.
Depending on the firmware of your device, Android Auto may not be built in yet, so you’ll have to download the updated firmware from Dual’s DCPA701 product page onto a USB thumb drive and update the firmware.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth allows hands free calling and wireless music streaming. The USB will not allow music playback from a smartphone outside of Carplay or Android Auto.
USB Audio/Video/JPEG Playback
In addition to the rear USB pigtail, the display also features a USB port on the side. A USB thumb drive will play back music and video files. For audio it is compatible with MP3 and FLAC files. For video it is compatible with MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-2.5 files.
Screen Mirroring
It is possible to screen mirror a device to this headunit with its RCA AV inputs located on the RCA harness. Using our mirroring adapter HDMIV-2, for iPhone use a Lightning Digital AV Adapter, and USB-C Android use the Beuler BU-CHMDI6. Link in the bio for all adapters.

We walk you through what each individual wire does, this way if you have an installation that doesn't perform properly you will have the resources to begin troubleshooting your installation.
