Our testing and analysis of the Power Acoustik EG1-4500D
Are you looking for a solid monoblock amplifier to power a set of subwoofers? I have an amp you want to take a look at, the Power Acoustik EG1-4500D. This Power Acoustik amp is a solid choice for excellent power on a budget. The Power Acoustik series amplifiers are clones of the Mosconi look. This model is a Class-D mono-block and provides flexibility with loading down to 1 ohms. This amplifier is not CEA-2006 compliant but puts out excellent power and we’ll put that to test in a minute.
What's inside the box?
Inside the box is a Owners manual, Warranty Card, Data link harness, Bass control, Bass control cable, hardware and monoblock amplifier.
Factory power ratings
What can this amplifier do for power output? Power Acoustik rates 750 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms, 1550 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms, and 2250 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohms. As we have shown in other models these ratings aren’t accurate at all, however; this amplifier puts outs some good power despite these false ratings
Dimensions
Dimensions of the amplifier include 9" W x 2-1/4" H x13" L.
Audio Adjustments
For adjustments Power Acoustik included input sensitivity switch, gain control, subsonic filter, Input RCA’s, Output RCA’s, variable low pass crossover, 0 to 18dB Bass boost, remote bass control and Phase shift. The crossover is adjustable between 30 Hz and 250 Hz.
Looks
Aesthetically, the Edge series amplifiers are pretty simple. They feature a textured Aluminum chassis with an etched Power Acoustik logo and black plastic trim plates.
Inputs
The Power Acoustik EG1-4500D is a versatile amplifier when it comes to connecting to your signal source. Connect directly to the RCA inputs of the amplifier using the RCA pre-amp outputs on your aftermarket headunit. You can also use speaker level inputs with RCA ends and setting the input sensitivity switch set to 8 volts making connecting to your factory headunit straightforward.
Connections
For connections the amplifier features two sets of spade output terminals for easy connections of two subwoofers, this is a parallel connection so make sure your final impedance is not lower than 1 ohm. We recommend a minimum of 4 gauge power and ground leads, check out our amplifier installation kits online at qualitymobilevideo.com. Power Acoustik fitted the amp with two 100 amp fuses. This amp in our tests drew 86 amps so make sure not to choke this amp with under-sized power cables.
How to connect two EG1-4500D together
This amplifier is strappable to another EG1-4500D with the datalink cable for incredible power output. We did not test this setup but you will need an additional vehicle battery and upgraded alternator as this will consume a minimum of 150 amps of current.
Our EG1-4500D Testing
The first test we ran was single channel driven, 4 ohm, 40 Hz, 14.2v. Power Acousik rates the amp 750W RMS here. Our Audio Precision will generate our signal and measure distortion.
EG1-4500D One- channel driven, 4 ohm, 40 Hz, 14.2v
Our HP8903B Audio Analyzer Picked up a 374 Watts RMS per channel, 1% distortion and 38 volts of output. Our AMM-1 read 351 Watts RMS and we drew 32 amps of current.
EG1-4500D One- channel driven, 2 ohm, 40 Hz, 14.2v
Going down to 2 ohms, 40 Hz. Our HP picked up 567W RMS, 1% distortion and 33 volts of output. The AMM-1 read 544 Watts and we drew 54 amps of current.
EG1-4500D One- channel driven, 1 ohm, 40 Hz, 14.2v
Next we went down to 1 ohms, 40 Hz. Our HP picked up 732W RMS, 1% distortion and 26.4 volts of output. The AMM-1 read 700 Watts and we drew 84 amps of current.
Frequency response
Our final test was frequency response. We used our Audio Precision to run up each frequency
Conclusion
The power output of this amplifier is pretty impressive for the price.
Car amplifier installation
We show you the complete process of installing a Pioneer Double DIN car stereo in a Chevy truck. The in-depth video shows the installation of the interface, and steering wheel control.
Amplifier Installation basics
Let's start with the basics of adding or installing a car amplifier. First you will need to plan your installation and power wiring, this usually is the most difficult part of the installation for most.
How to choose the proper wire size explained
What size power wire do I need for my amplifier? Well, that depends on the length of the wire and the power consumption of the amplifier. We walk you through how to choose the right gauge wire and wire material depending on your amplifier installation requirements.
How to wire speakers and subwoofers to your new amplifier
In our third video we demonstrate the various ways you can wire speakers and amplifiers to all types of amplifiers. There different ways to do this depending on the type of amplifier you choose to purchase.
What is gain? How do I set it properly?
In our fourth video we demonstrate how to set the gains on your amplifier to prevent damage to your speakers, subwoofers and even possibly your new amplifier. Using a portable oscilloscope we show you how to set your gains.
